Historical events inevitably bring change and the city of Burgos has adapted to the times, moving into the modern age and becoming an enlightened, romantic and bourgeois city that enjoyed ordered, elegant and refined growth, whilst at the same time conserving its historical heritage and looking ahead to the future with an open and contemporary mind.

The opening up to the world of enlightenment in the late 18th century and particularly in the 19th century brought with it modern constructions such as the buildings that line Burgos’ magnificent Paseo del Espolón or the superb Paseo de la Isla.

This route includes the following sites of interest: the Provincial Council House, the Main Theatre, the Palace of the Marchioness of Vilueña, Burgos City Hall, Burgos’ Plaza Mayor, Paseo del Espolón, the court buildings, Paseo de la Isla Palace and the Episcopal Palace.
