Two groups challenge each other to recite verses written by Lope de Vega
Romances' procession
The origins of this traditional local festivity date back to the 17th century, in which two groups of young people challenge one another to recite verses written by Lope de Vega during the Holy Thursday procession.
There are more than 300 verses, published in 1614 in the ‘Rimas Sacras’ (similar to the Stations of the Cross). The challenge consists of seeing who, among the two groups, is capable of reciting the verses quickly, with true sentiment and naturally without making a single mistake. This is the most popular of the Holy Week events organized in Navaluenga.
