The Romans not only extracted gold from the Médulas, but there were mining operations along the course of the Sil River and its tributaries. On the Burbia River , there are the La Leitosa and Los Cáscaros mines, two of the largest in area from Roman times, after Las Medulas. It is estimated that 40 million cubic meters of alluvial land were excavated here in the 1st century. And it is known that the three canals that carried the water to La Leitosa measured 40 kilometers. This area also preserves very important pre-Roman forts.

There are several signposted hiking routes through the Leitosa mines to enjoy its viewpoints, its landscape, a picnic area and nearby are the remains of the Somoza iron factory.
