In the primitive 16th century building, the city council held its sessions, which had its most representative offices here.

On the ground floor were the "Mesón de la Fruta", which was a kind of regulatory post, and the "Peso Real", through which all merchandise passed to check its weight and obtain permission for its sale.

It was sold along with other assets to build the new town hall. In 1862 it passed to the Palencia Casino Society.

In the 1920s, Jacobo Romero carried out a complete transformation of the building that gave it the appearance it has today, showing the most characteristic atmosphere of the Palencia bourgeoisie.

The exterior modernist mural is the work of the Palencia painter Rafael Oliva (1998).
