An inscription indicates it was completed in the early 12th century. It has Mozarabic elements and the apse is a huge tambour reinforced by columns on high plinths.

During the restoration works inside the church in 1999, a small 9th-10th-century medieval structure was discovered. It is thought to have been built to honour the Archangel Saint Michael, and it was eliminated when this Iglesia de San Fructuoso was erected in the 11th and 12th centuries.
