The 17th century marked the beginning of the slow decline of assembly carpentry, as Diego López de Arenas bitterly recalled in his Brief compendium of white carpentry printed in Seville in 1633: "bad apprentices are raised into bad officers, and "From bad officers they become worse teachers, taking measures on the fly after hearing it said without knowing if whoever tells them is deceiving them and, thus, when they go to execute, they are confused and in this way they slow down the works."

But the office showed signs of resistance to bequeathing us ensembles such as the transept and nave of the church of San Félix de la Vega. The exuberant decoration of past times has given way here to a sober network of squares that is concentrated in the almizate. Several octagonal coffered panels and some classically inspired ornaments carved into the wood were enough to complete these works of simple appearance but correct technical execution that today are presented to us as the last symptoms of vitality of an activity that was approaching its decline.
