The poet José María Gabriel y Galán, born in Frades de la Sierra, was the son of modest peasants, and a lover of the lands of Salamanca and Extremadura. The writer's birthplace has been restored and decorated with period furniture as a museum dedicated to his work, through various interpretive resources, and several editions of his poetry books can be seen.
