This region boasts a fascinating succession of mountains, rivers, waterfalls, caves and gorges. It is the greenest area of Burgos and highlights include the Ojo Guareña, the largest set of caves in the Iberian Peninsula and declared a natural monument, or the hermitage and cave of San Bernabé or a tour inside Palomera Cave.

The multiple attractions of Las Merindades make this a unique spot in which to enjoy a busy weekend; visitors can take a trip down to the mouth of the River Rudrón with its cold, crystalline waters before ending their adventure-packed trip in Pesquera de Ebro.

This route includes the following sites of interest: Ojo Guareña and the Ojo Guareña Caves Archaeological Area, Palomera Cave, Covanera Blue Well, the Chapel of Nuestra Señora de la Virgen del Ebro and the Porvenir Hydroelectric Station in Quintanilla de Escalada.
