The only artisanal hydraulic dairy that persists in Spain could not be in another valley than that of Laciana, the cradle of the Leonese dairy industry. The dairy company of the Sierra-Pambley family was based in Villablino, whose history is the protagonist of the magnificent Sierra-Pambley museum in the capital of León.

The Sosas dairy "la Popular" was built in 1920 through facendera -the ancient call to the neighbors for communal work, with roots in the old Kingdom-. The Cooperativa Popular de Sosas was in charge of its operation and maintenance, until its closure in 1968. The butter (manteiga) was marketed throughout Spain by Mantequerías Leonesas.

The current Neighborhood Board has restored the dairy. As a result, the Sosas dairy is now in perfect condition to make butter, just as it did in the last century, so that it can be enjoyed in this century.
