What the walls know. A historical and ecological walk through the dry stone of the Vera de la Sierra.

What do dry stone walls, the history of transhumance, cultural heritage, and the biodiversity of the Segovian foothills have in common? More than you might think. Based on his book *Ecologías de piedra seca* (Ecologies of Dry Stone), Ion Fernández de las Heras proposes a talk dedicated to discovering how seemingly silent stones have, for centuries, woven the histories, lands, and ecologies of this region of Segovia.

Ion Fernández de las Heras is an anthropologist and architect, and currently works as a postdoctoral researcher at the Open University of Catalonia (UOC). He is the author of *La Casa en Llamas* (Sans Soleil, 2023) and *Ecologías de piedra seca* (Diputación de Segovia, 2025), the latter stemming from research conducted in the Segovia mountains with the Manuel González Herrero Institute of Traditional Segovian Culture.
