Boasting an unusual location, it reflects the particular layout of the towns of the Sierra de Francia mountain range, which tend to be situated in valleys or on hillsides. The town winds its way up to the top of the granite hill, site of the church and castle, occupying a dominant position in a display of the power it once wielded in the region of the same name.

The gates are situated at the four cardinal points, next to the church and the castle, acting as large pieces that define the urban layout. Only the small Chapel of La Virgen de la Cuesta stands modestly to the west, of tremendous beauty despite its lonely location. A fiercely defended site that is worthy of protection.
