The museum, created to provide an exhibition space for Avila’s tangible culture, boasts a wealth of works covering various fields, ranging from archaeology to fine arts, ethnography and bullfighting.

The archaeology section contains exhibits dating back from the Palaeolithic Age to the Middle Ages, whilst the fine arts section features works arranged chronologically between the 12th and the 19th centuries, including Flemish paintings, ceramics, weapons, furniture and decorative arts, offering an insight into the medieval and modern ages.

The ethnography exhibition includes items from popular culture such as costumes, wickerwork, looms and farming, livestock and masonry tools and implements. Also worthy of note is the exhibition on bulls and bullfighting, which includes objects such as the Magazos Roman mosaic, the tomb of the Knight of Serranos de la Torre, by Vasco de la Zarza, and the stone boars discovered in Martiherrero. Undoubtedly this museum provides a fascinating tour of the history of the province of Ávila.
