Sheltered by the Gredos Mountain Range, which Miguel de Unamuno once referred to as ‘Spain’s heart of stone’, the Tiétar Valley stretches out surprisingly over a vast plain, tracing a landscape that both captivates and delights.

The artistic and archaeological heritage to be found here includes palaces, quaint chapels and the impressive Roman road that runs from Cuevas del Valle to Pico del Puerto. Nature lovers will also enjoy visiting the Tiétar Valley, home to the imperial eagle and the griffon vulture, whilst the Gredos mountains provide shelter for a large number of mountain goats.

Other sites of interest on this route include El Raso Fortified Settlement in Candeleda, the Castle of the Sad Countess in Arenas de San Pedro, La Adrada Castle, Mombeltrán Castle and the Eagle Caves in Ramacastañas.
