The Pre-Roman settlements of the Vettones in the province of Salamanca date back more than 2,500 years. Their fortified enclosures, known as castros not only provided shelter, but were also an effective form of defence against possible attacks.
On this route visitors can discover the Castillo Fortified Settlement in Saldeana, the abandoned fortified settlement of Las Merchanas in Lumbrales and the Yecla de Yeltes Fortified Settlement, fascinating archaeological sites in which to learn more about the way the Vettones lived in this area of Salamanca.
