The deep religious roots and a unique artistic wealth accredit the Holy Week of Fuentesaúco as one of the most important in rural Zamora of Spain, which is why it has been declared of Regional Tourist Interest in November 2023.

This celebration has some characteristics that make it unique. It is the most important in the La Guareña region and one of the most interesting in the province of Zamora. The image of the brothers of the Nazarenes, with their purple suits, crown of thorns on their heads, and a rope around their necks, is striking, especially in their processions on Holy Thursday and Good Friday. His way of the cross, late at night, continues to overwhelm those who contemplate and follow them.

Holy Week begins on the night of Friday of Sorrows, accompanying the carving of La Piedad or Virgin of Sorrows, during the following days the processions, liturgical celebrations and stations of the cross that make up the Saucan Passion take place.

At midnight on Holy Wednesday, the Brotherhood of the Christ of the Agony organizes the procession of silence. It is one of the celebrations that attracts the largest audience. The Christ of the Agony is followed by a large number of faithful who, under the promise of silence, walk through the same itinerary that the Ecce Homo brotherhood had carried out hours before.

On Holy Thursday, the brother who carries the Cross of the Lord, and who completes his process of penance in the brotherhood, guides his brothers through the places that he chooses to carry out the stations of the cross, one of the most striking aspects of This exercise is the rhythm in which the prayers are performed and responds to an ancient tradition that surely has its roots in the illiteracy of the rural population and the need to memorize the prayers.

Its peculiarities make it have the visuality and personality of a rural Holy Week, with an agrarian air in its rituals and in the way of living it, where all its inhabitants are linked in one way or another with this very vivid celebration, whose backbone is the Brotherhood of the True Cross.
