Holy Week in Almanza is one of the few examples of baroque rituals that survive.

During these days of Passion an interesting imagery runs through our streets and the devotion is felt in each tour.

One of the central acts of this week of passion is Las Caídas del Nazareno, a dramatization of this biblical passage that takes place on Good Friday afternoon and fills the temple of Santa María with emotion. Next, the procession, with the brotherhoods of Las Ánimas and La Soledad, procession the carvings of the Prayer in the Garden, La Dolorosa, La Soledad, the Christ of the Humilladero, San Juanín and the Urn.

Other appointments of Holy Week in Almanza are the Procession of the Palms and the Auction of the Steps, on Holy Thursday night, after the trades and the washing of the feet, the Procession of the Via-Crucis begins.

A traditional Holy Week full of events that concludes with the procession of El Encuentro on Easter Sunday, one of the most emotional and showy at the culminating moment in which the Virgin goes from mourning to the white mantle when she meets her son.

Its distinctive values are what make this Passion week unique after centuries of celebration, at least since the year 1560, when the representation of the suffering of Jesus Christ on the way to Calvary was documented for the first time.
