The Ronda

Special mention in the declaration of International Tourist Interest for Holy Week in León.

The Ronda of the Brotherhood of the Dulce Nombre de Jesús Nazareno has become an institution and a benchmark for Holy Week in Leon, being one of the most prominent and important events carried out by said Brotherhood.

As such, the Ronda consists of the call, both to the brothers and to the people of León, to the Procession on the morning of Good Friday, once known as "La del Calvario", by three brothers of the Company, who with shearing, bugle and drum and mourning in their respective tunics, they will walk through the narrow Legion streets singing their already famous and pitiful.

The Procession of the Steps

The Procession of the Steps is the most representative external event of the Brotherhood of the Dulce Nombre de Jesús Nazareno, and has been distinguished with a special mention in the declaration of International Tourist Interest for Holy Week in León (2002).

As already indicated in the rule of 1611, it is celebrated on the morning of Good Friday, currently leaving from the Chapel of Santa Nonia, headquarters of the Brotherhood, at 7:30 a.m. so as not to collect in the secluded Church until after 4:00 p.m., after walking through the streets of the historic center and the expansion of the city.

In it, the brothers of Jesus carry the thirteen sculptural groups owned by the Brotherhood, recreating the moments of the Passion from the Prayer in Gethsemane to the death of Our Lady. Lord Jesus Christ on the Cross.

The steps that participate in this procession, also formerly known as "Calvary" are: the Prayer in the Garden (Víctor de los Ríos, 1952), the Arrest (Ángel Estrada, 1964), the Flagellation (attributed to Gaspar Becerra, s XVI), the Crowning of Thorns (Higinio Vázquez, 1977), the Ecce Homo (series, 1905), Ntro. Father Jesús Nazareno (Castilian school, 17th century), the Verónica (Francisco de Pablo, 1926), the Despiolio (Díez de Tudanca, 1675), The Exaltation of the Cross (Navarro Arteaga, 2000), the Crucifixion, (serial, 1908), Stmo. Christ of Agony (Laureano Villanueva, 1973), Saint John (Víctor de los Ríos, 1946) and closing the procession, the Sorrowful Mother (Víctor de los Ríos, 1949), all of them carried on the shoulders of the brothers of the Brotherhood.

Throughout the procession, El Encuentro takes place, its most notable event. Arriving at the Plaza Mayor, after a brief sermon given from the balcony of the Town Hall, the meeting between San Juan and La Dolorosa is staged, in the presence of the Nazarene and which every year brings together thousands of Leonese and tourists who come to León in those dates.
