The University has the most important civil baroque facade in Valladolid
Front view and atrium of the University of Valladolid
El antiguo edificio era de estilo gótico. En la época de los Reyes Católicos se construyó la fachada principal, que ya no existe, y la actual fachada se erigió en el siglo XVIII, según los planos del carmelita fray Pedro de la Visitación.
Cut in Campaspero stone in a horizontal manner, it has two sections joined by gigantic columns in the central section. Antonio Tomé and sons carried out the stonecutting. On the sides are the doors of Rhetoric and Geometry; the Theology door is next to the doors of Canon Science and Law. In the central part of the attic are Astrology, Medicine, Philosophy and History. In the niche of the back wall Knowledge is shown and on top of the side pilasters are the Kings and Queens who have played an important role of the history of the university.
