An early 20th century building in the Modernist style featuring Neo-Classical and Neo-Renaissance elements as well as a clearly Baroque influence. Built in 1914, it is considered to be the masterpiece of the architect Jerónimo Arroyo.

Made of Hontoria stone, brick, iron and glass, the main façade boasts an elaborately decorated central section, with three semi-circular arches crowning the doors and an ornamental balcony. Inside, visitors should take particular note of the hall, with its Italian-style frescos and reliefs, whilst the slender staircase also reveals outstanding works by some of Palencia’s finest artists.

To the left of the building we find the food market, a fine example of architecture built in iron and glass, whilst on the right-hand side stands the Principal Theatre, built in the early 19th century in the style of the 17th century Italian theatres. Together, they form an attractive setting in the heart of the city of Palencia.
