Processions making their way around the wall
Holy Week in Avila
One of the most important processions, the Cristo de las Batallas, is held on Holy Wednesday, departing from the Convent of Mosén Rubí. The main image is a small 15th century bust that accompanied the Catholic Monarchs during their military campaigns, hence its name.
Another image, known as El Cristo de los Ajusticiados or Cristo de la Buena Muerte, presides over the Penance Station of the Cross on Good Friday, when the procession makes its way around the city wall.
