The sites of Ambrona and Torralba are the most relevant of the Lower Palaeolithic in the Iberian Peninsula.

The excavations discovered remains of an abundant mammals fauna (bulls, horses and others), standing out a type of elephant of straight ivories (elephas antiquus) of 300.000 years ago whose fossils are shown in the Ambrona’s Museum.

The groups of humans who lived in these lands were semi-nomadic and lived in caves or outside. Their life was based on hunting animals and the harvest of wild products.
