13 Sonnets and a Mermaid is a concert for voice and guitar with music and lyrics by composer Daniel Pérez. Its originality lies in the sonnet form, as it is not common in musical compositions, nor is it typical for the same author to have written both the music and the lyrics. The sonnet has a long tradition in Spanish literature, from Garcilaso, Quevedo, and Lope de Vega, among our classics, to Lorca and Miguel Hernández, to name a few. This recital seeks to draw inspiration from that poetic tradition and from the conviction that it is necessary to defend Spanish as a language of culture. The 13 sonnets speak of the feeling of love from different perspectives, although, as is the case with art in general, they go beyond the purely emotional.
