Lecture: Queen Berenguela and the Red-billed Chough , by Miguel Ángel Martín Mas (Teacher at the Adult Education Center of Peñaranda de Bracamonte and popularizer and researcher specializing in the historical period of the War of Independence.)

Presented by Isabel Muñoz Sánchez (Association "Citizens for the Defense of Heritage" )

In 1973, a medieval roof structure was discovered in the Church of the Convent of Santa Clara in Salamanca . It had been hidden during the church's Baroque renovation. The roof structure was decorated with over a hundred heraldic emblems.

Attracted by an emblem containing a bird, specifically a red-billed chough, Charo García de Arriba and Miguel Ángel Martín Mas began an investigation with the aim of advancing the knowledge of the meaning of this heraldic iconography.

During this conference, the speaker will explain to the audience the research process carried out, as well as its details, and will discuss the lines along which this research will advance, clarifying one of the enigmas of the city's history, which this convent has secretly guarded for eight centuries.
