"Counting Music" is a music appreciation talk led by Ávila-born conductor José Luis López Antón, principal conductor of the Avila Symphony Orchestra. This initiative stems from this young musician's desire to bring the audience closer to the intricacies of the great masterpieces in the history of music.

Using accessible, relatable language and avoiding technical jargon , "Contando la Música" seeks to foster the enjoyment of classical music through guided comprehension, so that the audience can gain a more concrete understanding of the different stylistic currents in the history of music.

The first talk in this new series presents the Italian Symphony No. 4 by F. Mendelssohn.

The Symphony No. 4 in A major, Op. 90, "Italiana," composed between 1830 and 1833 and inspired by the composer’s trip to Italy, stands out for its luminosity and vitality.

It is structured in four movements:

1. Allegro vivace : a radiant, energetic opening in sonata form. It evokes Mediterranean joy and vitality.

2. Andante con moto: solemn and somber movement, inspired by Italian religious processions, with a choral character.

3. Con moto moderato : elegant and serene, in the form of a minuet, with a clear classicist influence.

4. Saltarello : presto, vibrant and frenetic finale, based on popular Italian dances (saltarello and tarantella).

Overall, the work is a musical tribute to Italian light and passion, combining formal mastery and youthful freshness.
