Human rights, the so-called law of nations, just war, and the limits of civil and ecclesiastical power are now part of the legal corpus of states that were originally proposed in the 16th century by Master Francisco de Vitoria in Salamanca.
In the play Francisco de Vitoria: The Voice and the Word , Etón Teatro presents a Francisco de Vitoria who is ill and retired from teaching, shortly before his death in 1546. The Dominican friar displays his determination and wisdom before an imperial emissary who censures him. The great humanitarian principles developed by Vitoria in his lectures, primarily on the Indies and on the Law of War , as well as the intellectual and ethical heights of his thought, are also reflected in the apparent insignificance of everyday life.
Etón Teatro champions a social and communicative vision of theatre as a cultural phenomenon of the first magnitude, integrating into all its productions components of reflection on issues affecting humanitarianism, citizenship rights, equality and the solidarity of coexistence, without forgetting the playful sense of any performance, with the awareness that artistic commitment must serve as a formative vehicle, and with a clear awareness of integration, the group advocates for the reflective sense of all dramaturgy, putting at its service the scenic, textual, interpretive and communicative elements that constitute any theatrical production.
Etón Teatro. - an independent theatre collective founded in 1980 by artists from other companies, has worked continuously since then on theatre productions and artistic actions, educational work and cultural achievements of all kinds, having been recognized with national and international awards throughout its extensive career.
