On Saturday, July 12 at 12:00 p.m. , in the Audition Room of the Palencia Public Library, the writer Lucía Huidobro Gutiérrez presents her first novel , La pionera del fin del mundo (The Pioneer of the End of the World), a critical, fast-paced, and provocative science fiction novel about the price of disconnection, the abuse of power, and the darker side of progress.

Dafne needed money. That's why she didn't hesitate when she saw an ad from a pharmaceutical company looking for volunteers to test a revolutionary brain chip: ACERO. With it, consciousness shuts down, but the body continues to function. They call it "living without working." You don't feel anything, time flies, and your boss is delighted.
At first, everything seemed under control. Dafne agreed to be the first experiment. Nothing she wouldn't want to do, she was told. But when the chip came onto the market and millions began using it, dystopia became a reality. Because when you're not present... who protects your body? Who decides for you? What if living in sleep was the real end of the world?
