Song of Darkness and Sadness is not a gentle collection of poems. It emerged from a moment of crisis and depression, which the author tried to extricate himself from in the only way he knew how: with poetry. Filled with musical references of various styles, it unfolds like a depressive black metal album, brimming with desolation, dark imagery, and even suicidal themes. His various romantic disappointments, the oppressive weight of society, his struggles with alcohol, mental health, and food, the author's own folly in searching for a love that will likely never arrive, unfulfilled dreams, his own poetics, death—all permeate the verses of this collection.

The author takes a turn from his usual poetics: coming from the slam poetry scene and its three-minute poems, in this new book he opts for the short poem, even the micro-poem in some cases. This collection doesn't offer the same positivity as previous works, in which social struggle and denunciation were always present. There is a wound to cauterize, which Miguel Cornejo displays in all its rawness and ugliness, exposed to the elements, unhealed. There is no room for hope. Everything is depression, darkness, and sadness.
