On a drifting raft, five castaways reach the Indies: a young captain determined to repeat the feats of the conquistadors and expand the Empire, a boastful soldier who (he says) was present at the Battle of Tenochtitlán and the Sad Night, an evangelizing missionary in search of the souls of the Indians, a veiled lady hiding a secret, and a rat riddled with smallpox.

Upon arriving on unknown shores, they will experience a thousand adventures and misadventures together in search of gold, glory, honor, and faith, and will try to convert the natives—the savage spectators, whom they attempt to teach the Spanish customs of the 16th century—into loyal subjects of the Empire. La Desconquista is a comic and musical road movie, a burlesque celebration based on the chronicles of the New World. Ron Lalá presents the ultimate parody of the Discovery in the company's purest style: classical verse theater in the style of the Golden Age, with live music, a frantic rhythm, and, above all, lots of laughter. A succession of scenes, interludes, and songs revolve around the ambitions, obsessions, fears, and anxieties of the Empire where the sun never set, in its invasive zeal and its astonishment at the new reality discovered on a still-unknown continent.
