In The Yugoslavs, it all begins when a waiter asks for help from a customer whom he has seen lifting another customer's spirits with words. What the waiter begs this stranger is to speak to his wife, who seems to be sinking into sadness and silence. The waiter hopes the customer will discover the saving words he can't find for his wife. She, in turn, walks around the city, map in hand, looking for a place they call The Yugoslavs , perhaps another bar where people who share the commonality of being born in a country that no longer exists gather. Until a girl offers him, in exchange for hers, another map. The Yugoslavs is a play about love, sadness, the search for a place, and hope in words. Its characters are two men exchanging words and two women exchanging maps.
