The Castilian and Leonese Institute of Language is organizing a new session of the cultural proposal "People Who Read" on Saturday, January 17, at 12:00 noon, in the Palacio de la Isla. This initiative is designed to provide readers with a comfortable and pleasant reading space while also inviting them to share their reading experiences with others.

The initiative is inspired by the so-called reading groups , which emerged in New York in 2013 when a group of friends sought to combine personal reading with socializing and sharing ideas; this initiative has since spread to other Spanish cities. The program takes place monthly and complements the cultural offerings of the educational program "Saturdays at the Palace."

Participants have thirty minutes of individual reading in a relaxed environment, and afterwards a period of exchanging opinions about books begins, seeking the involvement of readers in a sharing of positions.

The coordinator of Gente que lee (People Who Read) is responsible for welcoming participants, playing music, introducing the activity, keeping track of time, and proposing a final discussion topic if there is no prior consensus. The ultimate goal is that, as the group solidifies and participants become familiar with the dynamics, they will function autonomously, facilitating the formation of a self-governing and independent reading group.
