Presentation of the book The Reader . Its protagonist, Karina, has learned to inhabit solitude like someone living in a trench: with the certainty that leaving it involves taking too many risks. She works in a parking lot at night, reads compulsively during the day, and finds refuge in books, in her friend Vanesa, and in conversations with Lucrecia, the bookseller who seems to sense what lies beneath her shell. But when reality seeps through the pages that protect her, Karina faces a world that does not forgive difference.
Its lines contain an apology for reading as a weapon for building thought, a gateway to the discovery of new experiences, a search for pleasure, and of course a successful path to leisure.
It is a novel about independence, identity, loneliness in adult women, and the harshness of a system that marginalizes those who do not fit into its molds.
With direct and uncompromising prose, she immerses us in the mind of an unforgettable protagonist, as tough as she is fragile, and in a story where literature is not only a refuge, but also a mirror and a form of resistance.
