The sculpture of Christ of the Gascons belongs to an iconographic model that draws its references from Central European traditions commemorating the Passion cycle. These were articulated figures, expressly constructed for use in Holy Week liturgical ceremonies, which in turn are intertwined with the very origins of medieval theater.
Through a dramaturgy based on historical texts from diverse sources, and through research and live performance of musical pieces that could have shaped such a ceremony, Nao d'amores premiered in 2007, in collaboration with the Board of Brotherhoods, a production that combines acting with puppetry, offering a glimpse into the origins of modern theater. This show continues to open Holy Week in Segovia each year and has toured major venues in Europe and America.
Ana Zamora:
In 2001, she founded Nao d'amores, a collective of professionals from the fields of classical theater, puppetry, and early music, which has been developing research and training programs for the staging of pre-Baroque theater. From 2013 onwards, the company expanded its creative focus to include contemporary repertoire. With Nao d'amores, she has premiered 17 productions, which are considered essential for analyzing the evolution of classical theater in Spain over the last few decades and its relationship with contemporary society. As an independent director, she has also directed productions for public institutions such as RTVE, Teatro de la Zarzuela, CDN, and CNTC.
She has participated as a speaker in numerous seminars and conferences, and has led training workshops in Spain and abroad (Italy, Portugal, USA, Mexico, Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, Bolivia, Chile, Argentina, Uruguay, Brazil, Cuba, etc.). Throughout her professional career, she has received several awards, most notably the 2023 National Theatre Award. She has enjoyed two artistic residency grants at the Royal Academy of Spain in Rome, and is a Corresponding Member of the Royal Academy of History and Art of San Quirce.
