On June 10th we closed the adult reading clubs that have been developed during the 2025-2026 course and that have been organized by the Palencia Public Library and the Popular University of Palencia .
At this event we will have the presence of the writer Rubén Abella who will present his work Dice la sangre (The Blood Says).
The novel "Dice la sangre" (Blood Says), published by Menoscuarto, revolves around the events experienced by a family in the summer of 1985 in a village in the province of Leon. The mother's serious illness is the common thread that links the writings of the rest of the family, friends, and neighbors. The testimonies, some of which take the form of court statements, form a mechanism that assembles these family events with the aim of unraveling the truth of what happened for the only relative who is not a part of the narrative. Abella skillfully integrates the different accounts into the overall structure of the novel.
Rubén Abella boasts one of the most solid careers in Hispanic narrative of recent decades. His first novel, *La sombra del escapista* (2003), received the Torrente Ballester Narrative Prize, and his second, *El libro del amor esquivo* (2009), was a finalist for the Nadal Prize. With *No habría sido igual sin la lluvia*, he won the Mario Vargas Llosa NH Prize in 2007, a successful foray into microfiction that he reaffirmed with *Los ojos de los peces* (Menoscuarto, 2010). After his acclaimed third novel , *Baruc en el río* (2011), the author returns to the genre with *California* (Menoscuarto, 2015). A graduate in English Philology, Abella pursued postgraduate studies at Tulane University (New Orleans, USA) and Adelaide University (Australia). He combines writing with photography and teaching. He has taught courses and given lectures at universities around the world and is a professor at the School of Writers and the Pontifical University of Comillas in Madrid.
