Idoia Costa, as head of the Hippocrates Institute in Burgos and addiction treatment therapist, will give us a brief introduction to addictions, their definition and history, their classification, with or without substances, as well as their social and economic impact, and will discuss risk and protective factors, biological, psychological and social factors, and the influence of the environment.

The Hippocrates Institute was founded in 2004 by Dr. Ángel Rubio Isabel, who had worked as Medical Director at the Blancafort Spa in La Garriga and the Mare Nostrum Therapeutic Center since 1989. His experience in the field of addiction led him to offer a comprehensive, effective, and specific treatment that addressed all the needs of a recovering addict. For this reason, he founded the Hippocrates Institute, a clinic for the treatment of addiction, together with Blanca Brigos, and never stopped working, researching, and advocating for addiction to be understood as a treatable disease and the addicted patient as someone who can recover.
