During the month of March, we will have the pleasure of hosting the series "Writing is defending the solitude in which one finds oneself: women's writings that illuminate our present." These words were written by María Zambrano for the magazine de Occidente in 1934, where she reflects on the reasons for the act of writing.

With this idea in mind, four conferences organized by Claudio Moyano Arellano will be held at the Library.

"Writing is defending the solitude in which one finds oneself; it is an action that only springs from an effective isolation, but from a communicable isolation, in which, precisely because of the distance from all concrete things, a discovery of relationships between them becomes possible" (Why We Write / María Zambrano)

This second talk will be given by María Hernández and Noelia Brezo on March 11 at 6:30 p.m. on "The plot of living: Carmen Martín Gaite and her legacy."

María Hernández Rodríguez is a professor in the Department of Spanish Literature, Literary Theory, and Comparative Literature at the University of Valladolid. She is currently completing her doctoral thesis, under a predoctoral contract, in which she analyzes the narrative strategies of contemporary fiction used to elicit sympathy and empathy for morally questionable protagonists.

Noelia Brezo Fernández holds a degree in Classical Studies from the University of Valladolid and a Master's degree in Documentation Management from the Complutense University of Madrid. She passed the competitive examinations for Library Professional in 2023 and began working as Director of the Leon Public Library in January 2024. In June 2025, she transferred to the Library of Castilla y León as a Library Professional.
