For the year 2026, the Burgos Public Library has scheduled an annual creative writing workshop, from January to December, taught by Paloma Ruiz-Rivas who has extensive experience in coordinating writing workshops, and is aimed at adults and young people over 18 years of age interested in acquiring the basic resources necessary to write literature.

During the first half of the year, participants will embark on the exciting process of writing a story. They will learn to use words as a tool to express ideas, share feelings, and tell stories, and will work with new literary composition techniques. All aspects of narrative, such as structure, narrator, characters, setting, and details, will be explored in a dynamic and engaging way.

In the second stage of the workshop, the second semester, the contents will be explored through didactic exercises and participants will create their own texts with the help of Paloma, who will guide the narrative projects of the participants.

The program

The workshop will work on six large blocks that cover the following topics:

  1. The literary text: fundamental concepts. Short story, narrative, and novel. The project. Documentation and idea generation
  2. What do we tell? The structure of the text: plot, theme and subject; conflicts, axes and twists.
  3. Who tells it? The narrator. The narrative perspective and its styles.
  4. How do we tell the story? The characters and their dialogue. The narrative framework: the setting, the time, and the description.
  5. The details: coherence, cohesion, rhythm, and tone. The plausible and the implausible. The logic of fantasy.
  6. Proofreading and style guidelines. Editing
