The influence of the media on judicial processes has generated a phenomenon
known as parallel trials , where public opinion can be formed before and during the
case developments affect the perception of guilt or innocence. This conference analyzes
specifically jury trials, exploring how media exposure can
to influence the deliberations of the jury members, the reputation of the parties involved, and the
trust in the judicial system.
Issues such as journalistic ethics, the balance between information and sensationalism, the impact on judicial impartiality, and the strategies that criminology and law propose to mitigate these risks will be addressed.
The talk will be given by Paula Cárriba Alonso , coordinator of the Criminology degree at UEMC.
