On November 5th at 12:30 pm, an anthological exhibition on Jorge Ruiz de Santayana y Borrás (1863-1952), known as George Santayana, will open. "Dialogues with Santayana, under the sky of Avila" is the first monographic exhibition in Spain dedicated to this influential philosopher, essayist, poet, and author of the famous phrase: "Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it."

Although he wrote all his work in English and is considered a central figure in American philosophy, serving as a professor of philosophy at Harvard University, Santayana never renounced his Spanish citizenship. This exhibition documents his life context with more than one hundred copies of his works, international articles, personal letters, and dozens of bibliographical studies.

One of the main effects of this initiative will be that a large part of the exhibited materials will be deposited in the Provincial Historical Archive, with the purpose of establishing the first Santayana Library , a specialized collection that will be available to anyone who wants to consult it.

The Provincial Historical Archive of Avila, in accordance with the functions of Law 6/1991 on Archives and Documentary Heritage of Castilla y León, among others, carries out the task of disseminating the documentary collections held by public archives, allowing documents to cease being anonymous and to be accessible to the general public, while contributing to their knowledge and to raising awareness of the value and the need to protect this heritage.
