The Avila Museum offers a fresh perspective on the ritual of the mask and its use in traditional culture, this time through a photographic exhibition. The artistic gaze thus becomes a further anthropological document, complementing the ethnographic information on this characteristic aspect of our popular culture, well represented in the museum's galleries with regard to the winter masquerades of Ávila. Through this exhibition, our view also extends to other similar manifestations throughout the Iberian Peninsula, the true ancestral context in which to frame these expressions.
The images are the work of the Salamanca photographer Miguel Ángel Cruz Sánchez, a member of the Valladolid Photographic Association, who with this exhibition offers us a graphic and artistic journey through the entire peninsula, with images taken between the years 2022 and 2026, which demonstrate the lively character and strength that traditional masquerades maintain to this day.
Landscapes, traditions, and people of the rural environment are a constant theme in his work, which seeks to preserve their memory for future generations. Equally interested in biodiversity and the beauty of the natural world, animals, especially insects, have been and continue to be the subject of his photographic lens.

The inauguration will take place on February 11, 2026, at 7:00 p.m. in the Deans' House.
