Film and Science Series, November 4-26, 2025

Cinema is one of the most powerful tools for scientific dissemination.
In cinema, the power of language, the power of images, and the appeal of music can recreate any story and deliver it in an entertaining way.
This is the case of the 3 films that we present in this cycle of cinema and science

CYCLE PROGRAMMING:

  • November 4th, 5:00 p.m.

"Oppenheimer" (2023), directed by Christopher Nolan

In wartime, the brilliant American physicist Julius Robert Oppenheimer, head of the "Manhattan Project," spearheaded nuclear testing to build the atomic bomb for his country. Shocked by its destructive power, Oppenheimer questioned the moral consequences of its creation. From then on, and for the rest of his life, he would staunchly oppose the use of nuclear weapons. • November 18th, 6:00 p.m.

"The Island" (2005), directed by Michael Bay

Year 2019. Lincoln Six-Echo and Jordan Two-Delta are among the hundreds of residents of a sort of concentration camp. Within this carefully guarded place, their daily lives, like everyone else's, are rigorously controlled and filled with restrictions. The only way out—and the hope they all share—is to be chosen to go to "The Island," the only place in the world that has not suffered the polluting effects of an ecological disaster that seemingly wiped out all humanity except the inhabitants of that area. Lincoln, who lives tormented by inexplicable nightmares, feels increasingly restless, and his growing curiosity will lead him to discover a terrible secret. (FILMAFFINITY)

  • November 26th, 6:00 p.m.

"Contagion" (2011), directed by Steven Soderbergh

Suddenly, with no clue as to its origin, although everything suggests it began with an American woman's trip to a Hong Kong casino, a deadly virus begins to spread throughout the world. Within a few days, the disease begins to decimate the population. The contagion occurs through mere human-to-human contact. A realistic, effects-free thriller about the effects of an epidemic.
