The first 32 years

The Zamora International Magic Festival is a pioneering event in Spain that has been held uninterrupted for 32 years. Over these three decades, it has established itself as an essential event, achieving extraordinary public acclaim, with all scheduled activities filled to capacity year after year.

The initiative was born from magician Paulino Gil, who observed that other performing arts, such as theater, music, dance, and opera, had festivals aimed at a wide audience. His goal was to create a space that would help build a broad community of magic enthusiasts: spectators who, even without knowing the secrets of the effects, could appreciate the artistic quality of the shows and enjoy the best magicians in the world. Because only by experiencing excellence is it possible to develop true discernment.

This exhibition traces some of the most significant moments in the festival's history, such as achieving a Guinness World Record for the simultaneous appearance of 2,183 magic wands by an equal number of people during the 20th edition; the moving tribute to Houdini; and the festival's ability to stay alive during the pandemic. It also showcases the diverse activities that make up the Zamora International Magic Festival: the International Galas, Street Magic, Traveling Magic—which brings magic to different towns in the province—, Magic Among Books, Magic for Babies, and Charity Magic, performed in hospitals, nursing homes, and special care centers. The exhibition also highlights other initiatives that have broadened the festival's reach over the years, such as the Close-Up Magic Marathon, with 24 uninterrupted hours of performances; Magic in the Dark; Magic Workshops; and the special Christmas Magic program.

Congratulations and thank you!

Thanks to the extraordinary artists who have come from all corners of the world to share their talent; to the institutions and companies that have made this project possible with their support; to the media for their coverage; to the production team for their dedication and professionalism; and, very especially, to the public, the true protagonist of this story, who for 32 years have filled each of the programmed activities and have turned several generations of spectators into accomplices of the magic in Zamora.
