Drama directed by William Wyler in 1949 and starring Montgomery Clift and Olivia de Havilland

The year is 1849, in New York. Catherine Sloper, a wealthy, shy, innocent, plain, and not very young heiress, is courted by a handsome young man. She falls passionately in love with him, but her cruel and despotic father opposes the marriage and threatens to disinherit her.

Adaptation of Henry James' novel "Washington Square".
