Biblioescema 2026. Rayuela Theatrical Productions "Jules Verne and My Grandfather's Book"


"Jules Verne and my grandfather's book" is a scenic journey between memory, imagination and time.

Carlos, an actor and theater creator nearing sixty, discovers that the old Jules Verne book he inherited from his grandfather is much more than a worn volume: it's a veritable time machine. Upon opening it, he travels alongside Verne to the past and the future, but also returns to his own childhood in the 1970s, when at just ten years old he discovered the transformative power of stories. "From the Earth to the Moon," "20,000 Leagues Under the Sea," and "Journey to the Center of the Earth" become theatrical gateways to different moments in his life: childhood, dreams, decisions, hopes, and his artistic vocation.

Between real life and imagined life, the show constructs an intimate and poetic narrative about how books shape us, save us, and accompany us throughout our entire existence.

The proposal stems from a desire to re-examine childhood as the foundational territory of imagination and artistic vocation. Jules Verne's novels were not merely adventure stories for generations of children: they were veritable manuals for learning to dream about the world through scientific curiosity, a fascination with progress, and confidence in humanity's capacity to explore the unknown.

This show aims to activate that shared imaginary from an autobiographical experience: that of Carlos Nuevo, actor and theatrical creator, whose artistic and personal life is deeply influenced by the early reading of "From the Earth to the Moon", "20,000 Leagues Under the Sea" and "Journey to the Center of the Earth".

The book inherited from his grandfather becomes a symbolic and real object, an artifact of generational transmission that connects memory, literature and stage.

The activity is part of the BiblioEscena 2026 program: performing arts in the library, promoted by the General Directorate of Cultural Policies of the Junta de Castilla y León, in which theater companies linked to ARTESA (Association of Performing Arts Companies of Castilla y León) participate.
