To know more

To whom does a work belong when no single will suffices to explain it? For centuries we have recognized the author as the origin of artistic creation. However, much of the music of the 20th and 21st centuries has challenged that sovereignty. From Brecht and Weill to Cage, Cunningham, and Rauschenberg, from the Beckettian creatures of Maguy Marin to collective improvisation and artificial intelligence, we will explore different ways of creating collectively. A history of encounters, disagreements, and dependencies that invites us to reconsider where a work begins, who decides its form, and how much of it remains beyond the reach of those who imagine it.
