During the month of April we continued with two sessions of Musical Afternoons.
They will be on April 15th and April 29th , both talks at 7:30 pm. We will give you more information about the latter one soon.
The first talk will be next Wednesday, April 15th. This musical journey will focus on modernity and will take us to London in the 1970s.
The exhibition will explore London from 1962 to 1989, not simply as a musical capital, but as a city where sound is always shaped by its interaction with other surfaces: the memory of war, working-class youth, postcolonial immigration, the shop, the club, the street, the studio, the concert hall. Therefore, modernity here does not advance as a succession of closed styles, but as a series of shifts: from Britten's public gravity to the identity anxieties of the Mods and Quadrophenia; from the urban edge of British rhythm and blues to the stage presence of glam; from the starkness of pub rock to the eruption of punk; from dub bass and British black poetry to the colder, more tense forms of post-punk. Alongside this, concert music does not appear as a separate world, but as another way of thinking about density, space, and listening. London thus emerges as a city of friction and metamorphosis, capable of transforming social conflict, style, and historical memory into sonic form.
