On January 14, 2016, the Segovia Public Library opened its doors in a new building, expanding its capacity to offer new services and activities to the community. We will celebrate this anniversary throughout 2026 with various initiatives.

The commemorative program began in December with a performance of A Night in the Library , a play by Jean Christophe Bailly conceived specifically for a reading space. Another performance will be given in March 2026.

Author

Jean-Christophe Bailly (Paris, 1949) writer, poet, essayist, playwright and art historian.

Argument

The spectators settle into the Library at night, at the reading stations, and observe the "book walk." When the city sleeps, the Library awakens, the books come to life, leave the shelves, and converse among themselves.

This work was intended to be performed in libraries, not theaters, so during the approximately 45 minutes that the piece lasts, the space becomes an essential element of the narrative.
