A thriller directed by Billy Wilder in 1944 and starring Fred MacMurray, Barbara Stanwyck, and Edward G. Robinson.

An insurance agent (Fred MacMurray) and the wife of one of his clients (Barbara Stanwyck) plot to murder him in order to collect a large accident insurance policy taken out behind his back. Things get complicated when Barton Keyes (Edward G. Robinson), an investigator for the insurance company, gets involved.

According to critics, it is a "draggling and tragic work that combines sordidness and passion to showcase Barbara Stanwyck as one of the most fascinating femmes fatales in film history. (...) A display of mastery that defined the visual codes of the genre."
