On Wednesday, October 28th at 7:00 p.m. , in the Auditorium of the Palencia Public Library , organized by the Ateneo bookstore, the writer and journalist Manuel Jabois, in conversation with Beatriz Álvarez , presents his latest work , The Eve.

Amalia turns sixty-five tomorrow. But today is still the eve. She shuts herself in at home to prepare food and clean so that everything shines while she waits for her children. Outside, police and journalists occupy the town because of an event that paralyzes the country for twenty-four hours.

In this unsettling story that unfolds over a single day, an unforgettable protagonist, Amalia Constenla, pushes moral boundaries and draws the reader into a journey of sacrifice, guilt, and redemption. Manuel Jabois constructs, around a mother and her son, an unsettling exploration of the origin and destiny of the first institution of all: the family.

Manuel Jabois was born in Sanxenxo in 1978. He began his career as a journalist at the Diario de Pontevedra. After working at El Mundo, he has written for El País since 2015. He also has a daily segment on the Cadena SER radio program Hora 25. As a writer, he has published the novel A estación violenta (2008) and several collections of articles, a short memoir, and a lengthy work on the 11-M attacks titled Nos vemos en esta vida o en la otra (2016). In 2019, he published his first novel, Malaherba , with Alfaguara to great critical acclaim. This was followed by Miss Marte (2021) and Mirafiori (2024). La víspera is his latest novel.
