Quantum physics of everyday life
Ana Martín Fernández
Ed. Pinolia, 2025
Did you know that every time you open your garage door with the remote control, you're using quantum mechanics? Quantum physics isn't just an abstract theory; it's the invisible foundation of our daily lives. With a revolutionary and accessible approach, Ana Martín guides us from the historical foundations established by Planck and the pioneers of the 1920s to the most surprising applications we use without even realizing it.
Ana Martín holds a degree in Physics from the Complutense University of Madrid and a Master's degree in Quantum Sciences and Technologies from the University of the Basque Country (UPV/EHU), where she later completed her PhD under the supervision of Mikel Sanz. During her doctoral research, Ana focused on quantum computing and the implementation of quantum algorithms under the digital-analog paradigm. She was a postdoctoral researcher in the group led by Jorge Casanova, where she worked in the field of quantum sensing using Nitrogen Vacancy centers. She is currently continuing her academic training in Germany. Her main area of interest is understanding and leveraging quantum principles to advance our understanding of the world and improve our technologies.
