On Sunday, October 4th at 12:00 pm, the Archive will hold the activity "The Call of the Castle", as has been done since 2021, in this case on the occasion of the celebration of the San Froilán festivities.

In our region, calls to action in certain situations have been made by ringing church bells. In many European countries, this call was made from castles using wind instruments.

The secondary function of the main building of the Provincial Historical Archive as a prison (first for nobles and from the late 19th century onwards for common criminals) is the best known to the people of León. However, the function for which it was built, possibly around the 11th century (King's Castle), is not as well known, except for the name of the city gate: Puerta Castillo (Castle Gate).

There are numerous documents that describe the building as a castle, especially during the second half of the 16th century due to the stay there as a prisoner of the Duke of Híjar (leader of the Reapers' Rebellion condemned to life imprisonment for his uprising against Philip IV).

On October 4th at 12:00 noon , the Juventudes Musicales-Universidad de Leon Wind Band will make this call to the people of León with a concert from the rampart of the wall and the main balcony of the Archive.
